I'm fine, thanks
And you ? The Tegra K1 was already really powerful, so we can think that this one will keep its promises ♦ Intel Core i7-6700HQ | 16 GB RAM | NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960M | Debian Testing ♦ Intel Core i7-2630QM | 4 GB RAM | NVIDIA GeForce GT 540M | Debian Testing ♦ PSP-3004 | 6.60 PRO-C2 |

RE: Tegra X1
As powerful as Xbox One, it's too much for a mobile, and it won't even arrive to smartphones, only tablets. Also there's no games at same level of this chip, then it's waste of time...

If it's twice the performance of the K1 within the same power envelope, they can bring it down to K1 performance with half the power envelope. That should be fine in high end phones and phablets. Plus, I can always use more performance for Dolphin emulation in a tablet. A few PSP games could also be helped with the performance of this thing. But whether or not a phone IHV will pick it for their devices is another question. The best bet would be a Google Nexus phone. I'd pick one up myself it it was. |

RE: Tegra X1
Anyway it uses too much power for a simple phone, also need a good cooling system. The chip technology is growing and batteries are still poor. Hardly the companies will prefer Nvidia Tegra X1/K1 instead the current Snapdragon, Nvidia will need to work hard to have their chips in the new phones. Even if the games' companies begin to work on better games for mobile, still won't be so great, will need to be something which works on most chips, at least on the Snapdragon ones, would be waste of money to make games for a only hardware.

Why would they need to make games for only the X1? They'd do what they've already started doing. Making games with different graphical settings so it runs on all the hardware. |

RE: Tegra X1
But they can't use detailed graphic engine because even in low settings the graphics may be heavy for most GPUs. Also the physical (that is a very important thing in the game) needs a powerful processor. But they could make more games based on Unreal, it's awesome, I played The Dark Knight Rises and Wild Blood, and they have unbelievable graphics for phones.

Just because you have a high end device to create more detailed games with, it doesn't mean developers will start creating games that don't work well on most modern devices. You could make the same argument against any IHV that is iterating to their newest hardware(Qualcomm, Mali, Imagine). Plus as I mentioned, emulation performance will be better with an X1. |

RE: Tegra X1
Yes, emulation will be just awesome. OK, but if they keep making games for run in most GPUs, will be exactly as the current games, maybe a little better. We can't dream to play console-like games on android for now, we will need more GPUs like Tegra K1 or X1, interested companies in making games for the system and a public interested in buy them (of course wont be cheap as current mobile games), so we need to grow slowly, for now this kind of GPU is waste of time, only worth for emulation.

It's not a waste of time if it pushes the games further along on the Android ecosystem if only marginally. The newest iterations of Snapdragon, Mali and PowerVR gpu chipsets are coming into par(API wise) with what Nvidia did a year ago with the K1. It's the same issues with advancement in the PC space with far more powerful GPU's. You have to have those GPU's to push the envelope else complacency sets in with the current market leaders. Look at Qualcomm Adreno GPU's. They've been far too complacent in their GPU drivers because they had little if any competition and now they are playing catchup to Nvidia in API support and drivers. In any case, I do understand your point of view. But as an enthusiast in emulation and mobile hardware, I can appreciate what Nvidia is trying to do with their Tegra SOCs. |
