[Solved]Mali T720MP2 poor performance
Recently I got a Galaxy J7 with Exynos 7580 and Mali T720MP2, I expected a higher performance than my old Galaxy SII with Exynos 4410 and Mali 400MP4, but the result was disapointing. I tested GoW Ghost of Sparta, and it's running worse than on my old SII, and it's doesn't look like CPU bottleneck, because the CPU is running with low usage and low clock. My SII, otherwise, has a CPU bottleneck, the processor is always at 100% usage, when I overclock it I get better performance than J7. The settings used were the same, I used Buffer Rendering and 1xPSP resolution.
I don't know if it's a driver optimization issue, but on games like GTA SA I have better performance, and J7 has a higher resolution than SII (1280x720 vs 800x480). Remembering it's a 35.7 GFLOPs vs a 9.6 GFLOPs GPU. RE: Mali T720MP2 poor performance
AFAIK last android at least the Samsung version of it has some badly working power saving and gaming performance services which slows everything down including ppsspp, I gues something alike also affects new iOS version.
Nothing really can be done about it on ppsspp side, you'll have to find and remove/disable whatever slows your system down ~ which might require root, unless you find some samsung only app that can do it without root, no idea about it's name, but pretty sure there was something like that for at least some newer galaxy phones. http://forums.ppsspp.org/showthread.php?tid=6594 - Custom PPSSPP Shaders! http://forums.ppsspp.org/showthread.php?tid=3590&pid=117172#pid117172 - simple CE scripts to help creating CWCheats, https://github.com/LunaMoo/PPSSPP_workarounds - CWCheat workarounds. |

RE: Mali T720MP2 poor performance
Well, Samsung released Game Tuner, but it's for High-End devices with QHD resolution...but thanks, I'm gonna try some apps, but I guess there's nothing I can do.

RE: Mali T720MP2 poor performance
Tried J7 2016 with Mali-T830MP2, terrible performance.

RE: Mali T720MP2 poor performance
I've tried 1x and 2x PSP resolution, and had no difference in performance, generally it happens when we have a CPU bottleneck. I've just discovered that Cortex A53 cores sometimes are slower than Cortex A9 cores or even have the same performance, Cortex A53 is based on Cortex A7, I thought it was faster just because 53 is higher than 9. I guess my problem is solved, but I'd like to know why the CPU usage of first core is too low.
EDIT: I've just checked the single-threading performance of both Exynos 4210 of SII and Exynos 7580 of J7, the 7580 is arround 47% faster than 4210, so there's no reason to it to be slower or have same performance on PPSSPP. Still confused... Phones: Poco F3 8GB/256GB (Snapdragon 870 5G) and Redmi Note 6 Pro 4/64GB (Snapdragon 636) PC: AMD Ryzen 5 3600 / 16GB RAM DDR4 3600MHz / NVIDIA GTX 1660 Ti 6GB / Windows 10 Pro |

RE: Mali T720MP2 poor performance
After OpenGL threading my new phone is much faster. I also noticed that the performance in the old hardware is worse than it used to be, maybe because PPSSPP has dropped some outdated features and now it uses some unsuported by old hardwares.
I still have minor issues with Mali T720, some can be solved tweaking some settings, but now most games are playable. Phones: Poco F3 8GB/256GB (Snapdragon 870 5G) and Redmi Note 6 Pro 4/64GB (Snapdragon 636) PC: AMD Ryzen 5 3600 / 16GB RAM DDR4 3600MHz / NVIDIA GTX 1660 Ti 6GB / Windows 10 Pro |
