Android crash on usb stick

Hi thanks for your work first of all. I use PPSSPP from play store on Android 6.0.1 phone HTC One m7. I have an issue when I use a USB stick to load games, when I click browse and then choose usb folder that has the roms, the program crashes. But when I copy the cso image to internal storage it runs perfectly. Any help? PPSSPP 1.12.3. Other than that Performance is pretty impressive for such an old phone.
