Delay When Pressing Buttons on my BT controller

Hey all...I just purchased an Evo BT controller to use with my Zmax Pro Android and things were working pretty well...until I decided to play Hot Shots Golf with the Evo controller. There is a horrible delay between when I press the button and when it registers. So much so it makes the game unplayable with the controller. My question is...is it the controller (it's cheap...only $20) or can I adjust this somewhere in the settings and fix it? Thanks all...
