How to connect my controller to ppsspp

I'd like to connect one of my old controller (without joystick) to ppsspp. It surely work on my pc because I've checked on my control panel but I don't know why, ppsspp doesn't react to my old controller.

If it's direct input on windows, you have to set it as default/primary gamepad in windows, only one direct input device will work at once and you might need to remap it in the ppsspp control settings since pre xinput devices doesn't like standards that much.
