Harvest Moon BTN / Boy & Girl (emulated) Tools Not Working

Hi all,

Super desparate, don't know exactly where to ask at this point.

I've tried playing Harvest Moon: BTN (PSX) on 3 different emulators and HM Boy & Girl (PSP) on PPSSPP and ran into the EXACT same trouble every single time:

Upgraded hammer and axe doesn't work. Yes I've been playing this game for ~ 18 years and just encountered this problem now.

I play on a iMac M1 2021.

Any fix on this? Thank you.
