Can't type capital letters?

I started Ridge Racers 2 and noticed that when typing my name it's stuck lowercase. There's no option to capitalize and I've tried pretty much every available keybind.

In Ridge Racer 1, at least, it works fine to press the select key.

I can't press anything besides the directional buttons to select letters, space, delete, and Start, which just ends typing and makes the game ask me if that's the name I pick. No other button does anything.
