I quickly recompiled the newest version on Ubuntu14.04 and tested it with the only controller I have lying around, a PS3 controller (054c:0268) and it works fine. I guess you can try to download this...

I'm not talking about the graphics, I'm talking about the CPU power required to do the system emulation of the PSP and the whole MIPS to ARM recompilation

No, you don't hold the button. The unthrottle button is what you have to hold, the "speed toogle" toogles when you press it. So you only have to press it to change the speed.
