Good day to you all,

I saw in the development builds that there's the option read .zip files in the emulator, how this works?, the file decompress in memory or to the disk?

You only need download the build and extract it, will be created a folder called ppsspp, in the folder there's the PPSSPPWindows.exe, open it and enjoy. Very simple. Smile

Guilherme, I think you're answering the wrong question.

The ZIP file support is so that you can download a demo from for example http://www.pspdemocenter.com, and unzip/install it directly in the emulator without using WinZip or WinRAR or whatever. Works for most zipped homebrew too. It's simple, just open the zip file from the games tab and it will install, afterwards you can access it from the homebrew/demos tab.

This will be enabled in 0.9.6 and is available in buildbot builds.

I think that he was asking if the archive is extracted in the memory(RAM) or in the storage in a temporary state.
I don't know the answer either. Probably, it extracts itself to memstick/PSP/GAME or sdcard/PSP/GAME(Android) ?

Thanks for the answer guys,

So if I understand correctly then there is not much point in zipping the isos because in the end they are going to be decompressed in the disk and not in memory.

Ah yeah, don't do that. CSO works fine for that.

Is there a downside to CSOs over ISOs? I know some of them rip video or audio assets out, but is there any other reason not to use them? Will they run slower or such?

Not if you rip and compress your own games, they don't (unless you butcher them yourself). O_o;

That said, there should be zero performance impact in PPSSPP using CSOs. On a real PSP though, if you set the compression too high, it can cause slowdowns or longer loading times.

If you delete the cso extension and type instead iso guess what, that file will become an iso and you will be able to run it on a psp, and of course the other way around works as well if the iso is made to run on a psp that is.

I don't think there is any difference in performance between them, or any difference period.

Not really. CSO (in the context of the PSP) is a compressed ISO. Renaming a file doesn't magically convert it into something else.

I know it doesn't convert it to something else, I just thought they were virtually the same thing. Even so what I already said still works.

It would, yeah, because the PSP would analyse the contents of the file, not its file extension. Tongue
