What controller should I get? - PainFoinmr - 02-20-2015 07:50 PM

Hello!
With the download of this awesome emulator, I wanted to buy a controller. What should I get? Should I go for a fancy X360 controller? I read that the wireless requires batteries (can't you just charge it with cord like Dualshock 3?). Does Wired X360 has a USB plug? If so, can I just buy any Wired X360 or are there some PC adapted controllers that I should look for?
Maybe there are other controllers that are plug and play for PPSSPP that have D-pad just like on Dualshock not like on X360?

few years ago i buy sony mp4 player it have chargeable built-in battery in it so i dont need to buy extra battery for it

but from when at 1st years it had like over idk maybe 30-40 hours of play time now it have like 8hours of play time

and now im looking for mp3 player which uses normal AA or AAA battery so i can use re-chargeable accumulator batteries

and now you wonder why i talk about mp3/4 player when you ask about controller

well look if in my mp4 battery power storage amount did drop from 30-40h to 8h same will happen to any controller

so in my opinion its better to have option to replace battery with AA or AAA battery than built in battery cause you lets say ur controller would need 2 batteries and you just buy 4 re-chargeable accumulators and have 2 inside ur controller and other 2 already charged waiting to use at any time

this way you will never wait for re-charge when ur controller battery is out of power

and i did exact thing with my controller but my uses 3xAAA batteries and so i have 6xAAA re-chargeable accumulators 3 of them are now in the controller and when they run out of power i just take other 3 which are charged already and replace them with used ones and keep playing while that out of power ones will be charging

+ of that is fact even when the power they can hold will drop i will just buy new accumulators and in like my mp4 case im in deep s#!t cause getting new built-in battery for it and replacing it is uber hard cause i need battery for exact same model of my mp4 or i need to by new mp4 player (so im going for mp3 player running on batteries ) so in conclusion i believe same thing goes for controllers with built-in battery

thats why i think device which uses normal AA/AAA batteries will always be better cause you should not be forced to exchange whole device when battery start to lose power storage or maybe it will be out of production already like now i have problem with psp battery thats just retarded

2nd thing is how far you sit from ur pc if ur in front of it like in front of desktop then whats they point for getting wireless one? if you like me are playing on ur bed far from pc then its essential to have wireless one

recently i did buy this piece of epic s#!t
Trust GXT 30
https://www.google.pl/search?q=trust+gxt+30&biw=1026&bih=644&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ei=GS_oVKakG-f4ywP1-YC4Cg&ved=0CAYQ_AUoAQ

works perfect only complain i can have about it is that i cant set start or select to turbo

and that what you should look for when you are selecting controller does it have turbo and clear buttons

turbo and clear allows you to lets say when you hold button 1 and press turbo then it will go to turbo mode/rapid fire mode and clear just reverts it to its original state

you think you dont need it maybe? well after u use it once you will realize you cant play without it

i dont use it often but when i need it is there

you can compare it to like you played any pc game game with controller after u did once you just feel u cant go back to keyboard

also look what button layout controller have for example this 2 controllers

http://icomp.pl/images/cache/www/duze/joysticki-79.jpg

http://m1.agitomedia.pl/image/700x700/0/akcesoria-pc-dla-graczy/tracer-trj-105-proton-shot.219711.2.jpg

they have buttons up from analogues so close to each other its easy to miss press any of them and when your playing u should be able to memorize where they are and just press them not even looking on controller but here you would need to look often even after you memorize

so keep that in mind

and here is biggest garbage i ever had

http://i.mobimaniak.pl/mobimaniak/2014/08/Joystick-Media-Tech-MT-1504.3.jpg

it only looks ok but for the reason that start select turbo auto mode and clear buttons are so close to each other this is worst controller i ever had

so always look on button layout before u decide

and if u dont care about turbo and clear buttons and just want it to work

1 that i had and was very well made is logitech rumblepad
http://www.iridescent.co.za/product_images/a/086/216.1.0__10824_zoom.jpg

if it would have turbo and clear buttons for me it would be best controller ever made but it dont Tongue

it runs on 2xAA batteries

Thanks for your reply ZeroX4. It was really detailed and now I know what kind of controller I really want. I just want to make sure (cause I am too paranoid of making mistakes) - if a controller has USB plug in, it should work without some kind of adapters, right? And if it has this usb cord, it will work without batteries?

about cord yes but!

there are exceptions like my trust GXT 30 i got usb receiver which u can see here (it looks like usb pen-drive)

http://www.conrad.de/medias/global/ce/9000_9999/9100/9180/9180/918010_BB_01_FB.EPS_1000.jpg

but look here this is front image of my controller

http://www.nix.ru/autocatalog/game_controllers_trust/126182_2241_draft_large.jpg

did u notice in the center that mini usb port? i never tested it i dont know if its for wire usage or need to use my controller on playstation but its there so i assume i can use that cable to play without batteries

so wire not always mean it works only on wire but its only like 5% of controllers have both options

IF controller have hardwired cord (cord is part of controller and u cant plug it out) for sure it runs WITHOUT batteries
in 95% you CAN say that if controller have wire then its wire based usage

but as for ur 1st question about adapters this can be tricky
i dont know if regular xbox wireless controller + some kind of adapter will work on pc
probably will but i cant say for sure

thing u need to pay attention to is NAME OF CONTROLLER then you can google its spec and then you pay attention to what systems it support aside from what system it was made for

i seen many good ps2/3 controllers which support windows
but also i seen tons which are designed only for Play Station family and wont work on windows and i didnt had chance to test if it will work with some kind of adapter

even so i know there exist adapters for ps and xbox controller but how they mix with 3rd party controllers is not so clear it can or can not work i dont know

ur best choice is to search controllers that have windows support in specs

even so im not expert i just had like over 20 controllers in my life which ony 2 i had wireless so i can be wrong in many cases

but most of the time its better to buy good wire controller than shitty wireless controller trust me

if you get any controllers u will consider to buy put links to them here and i can help you select

Hi there,

I bought a "Rock Candy" PS3 controller for my android tablet, works like a charm, PPSSPP.
All controls are re-definable, even the right hand analogue stick I was even able to map to the right face buttons (Triangle, Circle, Cross, Square), so games like Star Wars Battlefront 2 etc worked brilliant.
The controller is wireless and uses a full size USB connector, I must say I haven't tested this on my PC yet though, but I shouldn't think that would be a problem.

Hi sorry for the delay,

Seems the pad works just as well on PC as it did on Android, so can highly recommend the "Rock Candy pads". Cool

You could just buy the wired XBOX 360 wired controller because unlike the PS2's Dualshock, which uses a special connector to connect with the PS2 itself, the Xbox 360 wired controller uses usb, so you can go plug it and download the drivers.(Don't buy the PC version, they're just the same with the console version of the Xbox 360's wired controller, just re labeled to fetch a higher price)

The PS3 controllers(Both third-party or not) connects to the PS3 using bluetooth, just like the wii controllers connect to the wii using bluetoth also, so you could use any PS3 controller, you just need DS3(Look for the offline version) and a bluetooth dongle if your PC/laptop don't have a bluetooth built in .

i was about to buy this
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Quick-Act-Playstation-Compatible-Controller/dp/B005GP4KDC

when i asked seller if it will work on pc he said it DO NOT WORK on pc

even so every site i found about this controller says it only support PS3

not a single reference to PC
same in manual for this controller

i found many PS and Xbox 3rd party controllers support only the console
so im not sure if every controller works on pc but well i can be wrong

anyway i think its better to buy controller designed to use on pc than controller designed for console

even more i think microsoft's controller d-pad and left analog stick swap is same BS as youtube and google+

you should just buy a good conditon xbox 360 wired controller or an original ps3 one or the logitech gamepads, they work well too. The reason that one would not work is because of the dongle that allows communicates the controller to communicate woth the ps3. Big Grin

RE: What controller should I get? - Clariska - 02-25-2015 06:16 AM

im not the 1 buying here
im just sharing my experience so maybe it will help someone buy good controller

cause most ppl here are ones that had like xbox and/or ps controllers + 1 or 2 pc controllers in their hands in their entire life and now they just go around saying xbox is the best or ps is the best

this is as retarded as eating mc donolads/kfc/pizza hut food for the 1st time and say its the best food you ever well lol not really if u did not try others

i tested over 30 pc controllers in my life i did buy over 20 many more i had in my hands adding console ones so instead of saying which is the best i can share my experience which is closest to perfect

but to tell you the truth there are no perfect controllers there is always something for something

like here
http://www.aliexpress.com/store/product/HOT-Cheap-2-4G-Wireless-Controller-Game-Joystick-USB-PC-Gamepad-With-USB-PS2-2in1-Conversion/915225_742759727.html

this is best controller i ever found but when i look in to it closer

it have 2 flaws 1 is that hmm "fins" on each side its cool idea but it should be my choice how i wanna hold controller

2nd is that analog button is so small idk how for u but i kinda got big hands and that is not good idea for me

this is almost perfect
http://www.aliexpress.com/store/product/Lima-shida-pxn-8633-computer-wireless-game-controller-pc-vibration-joystick-free-shipping-dropshipping/316618_674353248.html

if not start turbo macro and select would not be so close to each other
and placed in 1 line

here is my previous controller
http://www.google.pl/imgres?imgurl=http://www.frikomp.pl/_var/gfx/90c71d0eda6160b5b1286ca24569e04e.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.frikomp.pl/komentarz-9568.html&h=536&w=800&tbnid=sqZkhhUSEsjQ-M:&zoom=1&docid=Rk7SqGD5o0ZWWM&ei=KnbtVMbhFKXfywOFyYDYAw&tbm=isch&ved=0CB4QMygAMAA

its just perfect and only complain i can have about it is the fact that turbo and clear are closer to each other than start and select it should be other way around start and select should be closer to each other than turbo and clear (which is logical if u think about pressing them with ur thumbs without releasing controller from ur hand just by reaching it with thumb)
but D-pad is just perfect here (cant press 2 directions by mistake)
+ analog light is very strong and if you are playing in any position which makes ur hands have controller close to ur face like here
http://www.google.pl/imgres?imgurl=http://f.tqn.com/y/familyinternet/1/L/Y/6/-/-/141263167.jpg&imgrefurl=http://familyinternet.about.com/od/resources/tp/programmingforkids.htm&h=199&w=299&tbnid=EJo6GJiOncguxM:&zoom=1&docid=Nnupsx8Hu_w6MM&ei=mHftVMqjGuL-ywPcqICoAw&tbm=isch&ved=0CDEQMygTMBM

then it will be very annoying to ur eyes

this is my previous controller which i had before that tracer above
http://www.google.pl/imgres?imgurl=http://www.compass.com.ru/img.asp%253FtoUID%253D%25257B95E64CE0-CCC7-E011-A7BE-00241D7F76E5%25257D%2526tpVid%253D3&imgrefurl=http://www.compass.com.ru/Photo2.asp?toUID%3D%257B95E64CE0-CCC7-E011-A7BE-00241D7F76E5%257D%26toName%3D%25C3%25E5%25E9%25EC%25EF%25E0%25E4%2520Genius%2520MaxFire%2520Grandias%252012%2520(USB)&h=675&w=900&tbnid=kwmAkYuL4bl4qM:&zoom=1&docid=Uvy_j42JEQNw-M&ei=e3XtVK_cE6TfywPnm4DICw&tbm=isch&ved=0CC0QMygNMA0

its almost perfect analog button is big and easy to press
+ it glows at very soft green light when its of and very soft red when its on
but d-pad type can lead in to pressing 2 directions by accident

so in conclusion every controller have some kind of flaw and its up to any 1 who are going to buy a new one to decide with which are acceptable

but in the end its only matter of getting used to a new one

(02-25-2015 06:16 AM)Clariska Wrote:  We'll i really dislike the xbox 360 controller but am getting force into getting one.As 75% games on pc comes out with there configurations. It's just Microsoft way to make money......

thats why ppl invented this
http://forums.ppsspp.org/showthread.php?tid=12513

and its good not cause you dont need to change in game controls but cause even if u keep ur AntiMicro profile and reinstall game you wont need to re-configure controls you just load that profile

so like there are some games i did not play for a long time and i recently just wanted to play so i install it and when there is like 12+ controls in the game and i dont remember which is which i dont need configure it from the scratch

i just load profile on AntiMicro (which is set to default games controls configuration) and in few 1st moments in game i start to recall them all

only thing i do in each game is disabling all controller controls or bind them to 1 button if disabling is impossible (but way around this is plugging 2 controller and play on 2nd well or just plug the 1 on which u wanna play as 2nd or after game loads)

even more in many games i am adding double functions to 1 button so like i can play normal with it but also move trough menu without changing button layout so like lets say jump is cancel and attack is accept button

or doing it via 2nd set in AntiMicro so like when i hold left analog stick button it actives 2nd set and there i have mouse movements under right analog and left mouse button under button 1 or start and escape or ender under L and R shoulder buttons

it extends ur controls and gameplay experience so much after you use it with few games it will make you wonder how you could play without it

Spiral Knights is perfect example
as for i have on 1st set on face buttons attack, turbo attack, weapon change, basic skill (which makes monsters drop more health items) on face buttons and shield, dash, strafe and shield dash/bash skill on shoulder buttons i have under holding left analog stick set change to 2nd set where i have all other combat skills under face buttons and on/off for auto targeting, auto walk, map, and change map from small to big on shoulder buttons

which i would not be able to configure with only in game controls for any controller

but with AntiMicro i can extend it far more i have total of 3 sets to control this game from which 1st is main and 2nd and 3rd are activated under analog sticks with just buttons i dont use so often but i would need them sometimes

and again after i reinstall windows only thing i do in game is to remove all controller bindings in options and im ready to play after i loaded profile on AntiMicro
