No automated build boot on my phone (Defy)
Hey,

I just tried a bunch of builds, going as far back as 731, and up to 1725.
I have the same problem with all of them : the installation seems to go fine, but when I try to start PPSSPP I just get a black screen (before splash screen, options,... nothing appears).
I just download the apk from the automated builds page, transfer to the phone, browse to it with root explorer and install. Am I missing something?

The 0.9.1 version from the Play Store works fine.

List of builds I tried : 731,1039,1613,1669,1676,1725.

Using Motorola Defy, Android 2.2, rooted.

If I look at PPSSPP in the app list, it has 0B of saved Data even after trying to start it, maybe it can't write configurations files for some reason?

RE: No automated build boot on my phone (Defy)
Hm, this is bad, I know we have an issue with ArmV6 phones which I will hopefully be able to fix once I get my hands on one next week, but the Defy seems to be an ArmV7 phone.

Would be super helpful if you could try older builds than that but I guess they've fallen off the buildbot..

Are you able to get ADB logs from your device?

Yeah, dunno where to get older builds indeed ^^'.

I was able to make an ADB log though : http://pastebin.com/JAU16xMq

That part of the log looks okay, would be helpful to have it all the way until the app dies (or is that really the end of it?)

Maybe I should just install 2.2 in the android sdk emulator...

RE: No automated build boot on my phone (Defy)
Well, the app never actually dies. When I start it I get a black screen, and it just stays like that forever (until I tab out with the home button and force stop, which I didn't do when recording this log).
Nothing seem to happen after the part of the log I copied, here's the next entry :

[ 10-14 00:02:12.889 13283:0x33e3 D/dalvikvm ]
GC_EXPLICIT freed 336 objects / 11688 bytes in 66ms

and then nothing for 20 seconds (next entry is "Gsm Radio Signal level: 3" at 00:02:32).

btw you say your device is rooted, is the OS itself plain or do you have cyanogen or something? There are some seriously buggy custom androids out there..

RE: No automated build boot on my phone (Defy)
It's the base OS (rooted in one click with z4root).

RE: No automated build boot on my phone (Defy)
ok. Looks like we are simply not working on 2.2 anymore. I guess I'll have to get my Nexus One back to figure this out, I lent it away...

RE: No automated build boot on my phone (Defy)
Hmm, there's some builds at the bottom of the build bot that are in random order and without date, author and commit log. Are those still good builds? Could narrow it down more using those.

Edit : v0.9.1-302-g57b2dea works, v0.9.1-303-g855fe05 doesn't! Same black screen problem as latest rev. Interestingly, there's a sudden 5MB jump in the apk size between those 2.

RE: No automated build boot on my phone (Defy)
Thank you! Ah, so it's this: https://github.com/hrydgard/ppsspp/commit/855fe05

So either 2.2 doesn't like binaries built with the new toolchain for whatever reason, or the device just doesn't like the APK size. Former seems more likely.

RE: No automated build boot on my phone (Defy)
Yeah, just tried installing a 46MB apk and it works alright, must be the toolchain.
