RE: A comprehensive list of games that are only problematic on AMD/ATI graphics cards
Just wondering if you guys could recommend any other fixes other than the 11.11a Catalyst cause i kinda also need the D3D optimizations that come with th 13.x series driver for my AMD Raedon Mobility HD3200 series video card

RE: A comprehensive list of games that are only problematic on AMD/ATI graphics cards
Just wanted to thank you for the driver recommendation. I had frequent crashes using the 13.1 (release) drivers for my card and after installing 11.11a haven't had a single graphics driver crash.

http://sites.amd.com/us/game/downloads/P...ility.aspx is a great utility for uninstalling Catalyst drivers -they've been very difficult for me to properly uninstall in the past.

I only use PPSSPP on Windows.

RE: A comprehensive list of games that are only problematic on AMD/ATI graphics cards
Thanks to Solarmystic for the information.
Let me also share my case.
My system is windows xp 32-bit with AMD HD7730, driver is catalyst 13.4.
It's unlucky that AMD HD 7xxx series is not supported by catalyst 11.11a.
So I have no choice but use the latest one.

For AMD HD 7xxx users, I suggest to keep PPSSPP v0.9.1-1630 or older one in your side.
PPSSPP might randomly crash in a few minutes by error of atioglxx.dll in revision v0.9.1-1631 and later(The latest one I tried is v0.9.1-2103).
Maybe some OpenGL-related change in v0.9.1-1631 hit the weak points of AMD drivers.
Because I've never seen this error in v0.9.1-1630 and older ones.

If I found this post earlier, I would doubtlessly buy Nvidia graphic cards.

turn off catalyst??
Do you mean Catalyst Control Center ?
I only installed the driver, didn't install Catalyst Control Center.
Thanks for your reply.

Windows XP and the Radeon HD 7730 combo makes my recommendation about drivers abit tricky, since those cards (7xxx especially) are often paired with either Windows 7 or 8/8.1 which are definitely better supported (better drivers) by AMD at this stage.

Have you tried upgrading to the latest 13.9 XP WHQL drivers for your card? (Not recommended for older cards, only for the newest ones)

I had not considered that there would be AMD users with bleeding edge 7xxx series cards still on XP for whatever reason. I suspect the recommended drivers for that series (using XP) would be very different.
If you were using Windows 7, I would definitely advise you to always go for the latest drivers for that card.

What Ritori meant by turn off Catalyst, is to disable Catalyst A.I. which is the cause of a lot of related driver crashes for AMD users, and is still enabled by default even if you haven't installed the Catalyst Control Center.

PPSSPP Modern Testbed:-
Intel Core i5 4690K @ 4.0 GHz
NVIDIA Geforce GTX 760 2GB GDDR5 VRAM @ 1138/6500 Mhz
16 GB DDR3 RAM @ 1600 MHz
Windows 7 x64 SP1

PPSSPP Ancient Testing Rig:-
Intel Core 2 Duo T9550 @ 2.8GHz
ATI Mobility Radeon 4670 1GB GDDR3 VRAM @ 843/882 MHz
8 GB DDR3 RAM @ 1066 MHz
Windows 7 x64 SP1

Thanks for your reply.
I use windows xp with HD 7730 just because the previous HD 4670 was gone.

I followed your suggestion to upgrade to catalyst 13.9.
It's very surprising that the version of atioglxx.dll is 6.14.10.11927, totally the same as catalyst 13.4.
And of course, v0.9.1-1631 still randomly crash by atioglxx.dll.

At this time, I installed Catalyst Control Center.
I disabled Catalyst A.I. by disabling Surface Format Optimization.
But it's a pity that the v0.9.1-1631 still randomly crash by atioglxx.dll.

It looks like I have to play v0.9.1-1630 for more time......

RE: A comprehensive list of games that are only problematic on AMD/ATI graphics cards
It's a pity that v0.9.5 still can not solve my issue.
So I decided to try in my side.
Thanks to Solarmystic again for his Guide:- Compiling PPSSPP on Windows for Dummies.

As I mentioned before, the crash should be due to OpenGL-related change.
It's lucky that there is only one OpenGL-related change in v0.9.1-1631.

The changed code of TransformPipeline.cpp in v0.9.1-1630 was as below:

//#ifdef USING_GLES2
glDrawElements(glprim[prim], numTrans, GL_UNSIGNED_SHORT, inds);
//#else
// glDrawRangeElements(glprim[prim], 0, indexGen.MaxIndex(), numTrans, GL_UNSIGNED_SHORT, inds);
//#endif

In v0.9.1-1631, it was changed to as below:
#ifdef USING_GLES2
glDrawElements(glprim[prim], numTrans, GL_UNSIGNED_SHORT, inds);
#else
glDrawRangeElements(glprim[prim], 0, indexGen.MaxIndex(), numTrans, GL_UNSIGNED_SHORT, inds);
#endif

In other words, v0.9.1-1631 replaced the glDrawElements with glDrawRangeElements at non-mobile devices.
I tried to revert this change, and tested for 3 days.
The ppsspp crash with atioglxx.dll didn't happen again.

It looks like glDrawRangeElements makes AMD driver unhappy.
I don't know if this change is necessary or not.
But maybe it's better to pass this information to developers.

Was the Emu working and games crashing? As in no games would start?

That is the problem I have been having in my other thread I made -_-

My case is PPSSPP starts games normally .
But after playing a few minutes, PPSSPP would suddenly crash.
The error window shows "PPSSPP has stopped working" , and wrong module is atioglxx.dll.
This case only happened at v0.9.1-1631 and later.

Thanks for posting your findings, it does seem like the latest AMD OGL drivers in combination with your Radeon HD 7xxx card on Windows XP aren't happy with that change.

The older ones for legacy graphics cards (10.2) doesn't seem to have this issue.

RE: A comprehensive list of games that are only problematic on AMD/ATI graphics cards
Thank you so much for making this thread. I disabled Catalyst A.I. in CCC and that fixed all crashes and lags I had in certain games. Now YS Seven doesn't crash anymore, and Final Fantasy Tactics and Hexyz Force run at maximum fps at all times (kept having huge slowdowns often on them before).
