the turbo key was made to run the emulation at top speed for quick testing (intro and dialog skipping) purposes not really to play at a higher speed constantly. That was the idealogy behind it I believe.
Also the option above i mentioned allows you to dial the speed to whatever you want  to play (slow-fast) at as long as the emulator can achieve that speed initially (Hold tab thats the fastest you can achieve).
