Problems with multiplayer in 1.4.2
I downloaded the latest version of PPSSPP (v1.4.2 at the time of writing) to try to play MHP3rd with a friend.

I forwarded my ports and we decided to both try connecting to coldbird as well as have him connect to me directly.

We've unchecked fast memory, throttled to both 25% and 5%, and even went so far as to try disabling our firewall while connecting.

However, while we can join a lobby and see each other, nothing we do is allowing us to join a hunt with each other. Every single time I load up a hunt, he joins in and readies up. If we're attempting with a throttle, we throttle before starting the quest and unthrottle when it says "Beginning Quest". Otherwise, we just let it sit until the level loads. We haven't managed to start a quest without the ever so persistent "(Player) has broke off from the group" message.

I'm wondering if there are any steps we might be able to take to allow us to load in properly while staying on 1.4.2, seeing as it's the most recent version and conveniently has a built in pro adhoc server function.

RE: Problems with multiplayer in 1.4.2
You don't have to slow down the emulator, it was only need back in v0.9.8
Disabling Fast memory and Firewall(at least add exceptions) should be enough, if it isn't then you have to investigate what more could block inbound connections on your or your friend's PC. For some, disabling mcafee or AVG has helped which has a built-in firewall.

We manually added in exceptions for PPSSPP in the Windows Firewall. We also briefly tried turning off the firewall. As for third-party firewalls: We're both running AVAST Free Antivirus, which has firewall as a paid feature.

We also tried running PPSSPP in Admin mode, no luck there either.

Try using a VPN, like Tunngle or OpenVPN. Last time I tried without a VPN I had to open port 10000, 20001-20004 as both TCP & UDP for it to work.

I've already opened ports 12000, 12039, 13007-13009, 27312 for the purposes of avoiding using a VPN. I've personally seen them as unreliable over time and whenever I have on installed funky things start happening on my PC until I remove it. Anyways, the research I did on the ports I had to open labeled those ports as every port needed to play every game online on PPSSPP.

Yes they are opened as both TCP and UDP.

If the ports 10000, 20001, 20002, 20003 and 20004(these ports are needed for Monster Hunter games) are opened as both UDP & TCP in your router and are assigned with the correct local IP(others also need to do this) and that you and your friend(s) have turned off 'fast memory' in the emulator and that you either added PPSSPP to exceptions for both public & private networks or if you simply turned it off for both public & private networks and maybe even turned off your anti-virus like mcafee, then I don't know Sad

I'll check 10000, 20001-20004 and edit this post when I get a result.

EDIT: It worked. At least one of those ports allowed us to join into a hunt.

For anyone searching for this in the future: If you open ports 10000, 12000, 12039, 13007-13009, 20001-20004, and 27312, you can play online with others for MHP3rd without the use of a VPN as long as you connect to their IP. Anyone wishing to post quests will require ports 10000, 20001-20004 to be open regardless of if you're hosting.

Great!

The other ports you were using seems to be for a Phantasy Star game, according to the last post at http://forums.ppsspp.org/showthread.php?tid=17421

RE: Problems with multiplayer in 1.4.2
Well assuming you connect your phone to your WiFi you do that in your router. Simply log into it, go to where it manages ports and choose TCP and UDP along with the port number then assign that to the IP that you have on your Android.

Details for tutorial can be found here: https://portforward.com/router.htm
Just find the model of your router there and follow the steps to get the idea how to do it, assuming it can be found.

And what about being stuck? What exactly is happening? If the sound is working but he can't move then it's 99% wrong MAC address in PPSSPP, just click it a few times and it should randomly generate a new one for him; do it before he gets stuck though Tongue

Here is one example how it could look like in the router: http://i.imgur.com/gIfRJlE.png

It seems like you are posting the same thing in different threads, don't do that :o

RE: Problems with multiplayer in 1.4.2
Don't think you can with 4G connection, you can try to google about it. Again if he gets stuck and can't move but he still hear in-game music etc. then most likely his MAC address is formatted wrong. Just tell him to click "Change MAC address" and it will randomly generate a new one, correct format is something like A2:CC:9E:73:1B:26 and NOT A2-CC-9E-73-1B-26 or A2.CC.9E.73.1B.26 there must be colon between each, no hyphens or periods. Double check that when the game is running because some people use "Game configs" which will change settings when you boot up a game.

If he just get stuck and it looks like the game froze, if he waits about 10-15s it should pop up "Communication error has occurred" which just means the connection to that IP failed.

RE: Problems with multiplayer in 1.4.2
Try those options then and see if you can open port 10000, 20001, 20002, 20003 and 20004 as both TCP and UDP. How you do it is up to you, trial and error style. Your friend also needs to port forward, not just you.
