Mediatek cpu's tend to have poor single core performance, but very respectable multi-threaded/ multi-tasking. Unfortunatly even though ppsspp can use more then 1 core most emultors are heavily dependent on single core performance.

Dolphin emulator really needs something on a tegra X1 class to run well, but yes cheaper manufacturers have generally less people working on drivers and usually poorer drivers as a result. Or a nicer way of putting it is is that those companies tend not to prioritize emulator (or other high single core performance tasks) in both their hardware choices and drivers.
