black screen
Hi I recently downloaded the ppsspp emulator and I was configuring it for graphics and I kept seeing that the non buffering render was the best but when I select that it causes a black screen to come over the emulator while the game still runs. I noticed this in Final Fantasy tactics and it seems that is the only one it does every time. I have the v0.9.7 ppsspp and I was wondering too if that is good or if the patched ones are better. The sound also messes up when a lot happens at once in the game and I am guessing it is because I can't use the non buffering render so please help and see how I can fix this black screen!!!

RE: black screen
Hi and welcome to the forums apeturis.

While Non-buffered rendering is considered the best option for performance, it's not the best option for compatibility. It's considered a hack for good reasons.

If a game needs Buffered Rendering to work properly (like FFT in your example), you'll have to enable it. There's no other way around it.

For better performance, you can always enable it, and reduce the rendering resolution to 1x or 2x.

RE: black screen
In general, the latest dev build is almost always a sure bet, with a few exceptions.

When reporting issues to us, the first thing we'll ask you to do is to update to the latest dev build anyway, since many fixes that aren't in the last official builds are pushed in the dev builds.

If you're on Windows/Linux/MacOS/Desktop, you can run multiple builds side by side with no issues from the same working ppsspp folder.

RE: black screen
The install process would vary depending on the platform you're on.

What device are you using?

If you're on a desktop system like Windows, it's as easy as extracting the 7z package obtained from the buildbot page and moving your old memstick folder (where all your settings and savegames are kept) to the new one.

On a mobile system (iOS/Android/etc), afaik you can only have one version installed at a time.

The best build to pick should always the be the latest one from the buildbot page I linked to earlier on.

As far as the settings go, if you've already read GuilhermeGS2's beginners guide and my own performance guide, you should be good to go.

The defaults are already actually pretty good.
