The Disable Media Engine option won't be making a comeback as Cloud said. If you have specific issues with games, post in their threads, and/or make an issue on Github, with detailed information about your issue(version number, device specs, what game, what the issue is, etc.). Most games that needed the option should be fixed by now, and shadows should have literally nothing to do with it..
