RE: Current state of Snapdragon-based CPUs in PPSSPP
@globe94 use build 1916 or 1448, its faster than the latest build for me, snapdragon s4 pro cpu

i think its because the latest builds cant deactivate the audio plugin, on build 1916 you can

what i ( and [Unknown] ) want to find out is .. whats causing the slowdowns on snapdragons.. because in early 0.9.1 builds , snapdragons is NOT THIS SLOW.
so, the slowdown is caused by a build around 1394 and 1661.. and not just bcoz of the snapdragon itself.

For your information, you can't disable the use of the audio plugin because it doesn't exist anymore...
We now use an ATRAC3+ decoder which is integrated in FFmpeg Smile

RE: Current state of Snapdragon-based CPUs in PPSSPP
Out of curiosity following the posts, i tried some old builds...i was hoping to see some kind of speed increase, but unfortunately theres none Sad

What bothers me SO MUCH, is that even the new Snapdragon 800 has the same exact issue, is not something Krait 200/300 related. And god, the S800 has plenty of power.

RE: Current state of Snapdragon-based CPUs in PPSSPP
@ [Unknown]
uhmm..
i've been testing dozens of builds these past hours and it seems that i found the CULPRIT.

v0.9.1-1491-g4ce204e-android.apk
v0.9.1-1582-g061efd3-android.apk
v0.9.1-1618-g4b019bf-android.apk
v0.9.1-1640-g996e468-android.apk
v0.9.1-1661-gf374593-android.apk
v0.9.1-2205-g525767d-android.apk
and so on , only crashes or runs with approx. 25% decrease in speed..

so, i go back to build
ppsspp-v0.9.1-1394-ga95a1a9-android.apk
ppsspp-v0.9.1-1419-g27584e1-android.apk
ppsspp-v0.9.1-1436-g85e6c93-android.apk
ppsspp-v0.9.1-1452-g75a96b5-android.apk

until i narrowed the range to
v0.9.1-1481-gc55cdad-android.apk
v0.9.1-1457-g11f8203-android.apk

then
ppsspp-v0.9.1-1452-g75a96b5-android.apk
turns out to be the last FAST BUILD.

BUT..

the next build
ppsspp-v0.9.1-1453-g9886a7f-android.apk
showed the massive slowdown highest speed i got is around 85%

i went back a bit and tried
ppsspp-v0.9.1-1436-g85e6c93-android.apk
but the speed is good.

and i also went up
ppsspp-v0.9.1-2205-g525767d-android.apk
ppsspp-v0.9.1-2287-g1d14915-android.apk
but still slow
around 84.2% 19-22fps

so, based on what i tested. i dont know why the result is like this but..
the point of transition of fast to slow build is between

ppsspp-v0.9.1-1452-g75a96b5-android.apk = the fast build reaching 100% speed.

ppsspp-v0.9.1-1453-g9886a7f-android.apk = is slow with highest speed of 85%

* i noticed on slow builds, it all has "Glaring/double vision effect on both menus and on screen buttons and it flickers a lot on intro video.

thats all, Big Grin

can i leave the rest to you? Big Grin
or ask me if i can do more. or what more can i do to help? Smile

RE: Current state of Snapdragon-based CPUs in PPSSPP
Great work globe94, but i wonder how much would help to the "general" speed of the emulator.

You're basing your tests on a single game right? That could mean nothing, maybe that particular game had issues with newer builds for other things that are not linked to the general snapdragon handling.
Just saying, then again anything that can help, its good. Ill test the 1452 build, ive tried the 1475 without success.
EDIT: tested the 1452 build ,and as i suspected, all the games i own are slower than any new builds, about 4-5fps.
That means your findings are tied to a single game... Sad

RE: Current state of Snapdragon-based CPUs in PPSSPP
yeah just one game at the moment,
i'll edit that post with more details and games maybe tomorrow or next day, thats all i can do for now, because my headache is killing me, im laying in bed now..sorry..

oh! i know! why dont u help me test? (if u have free time)
two testers are better than one right? Smile

*your settings might change the speed results also, i dont use speed hacks, cpu clock, frameskip, i only use MT and other options before MT existed.

i'll test it with SOCOM & Dynasty Warriors 2 & Kizuna Drive, i'll start from the top, Big Grin
after i sleep. Smile

RE: Current state of Snapdragon-based CPUs in PPSSPP
globe94, you have pinpointed this commit as causing issues for you:
https://github.com/hrydgard/native/pull/144/files

I guess your system was not choosing this EGL config before.

The builds from 4 days ago implement a proper EGL config chooser. Do you not get your speed back with these? If not, is it possible to see your log?

RE: Current state of Snapdragon-based CPUs in PPSSPP
not even close to 90% on harvest moon, on farm.

can i ask?
will the release tomorrow, make a big difference compared on latest builds now, or just the the version?

if yes , then i'll just test more games tomorrow then report.

This is an attempt to improve it, I believe it's in the latest build:

Any improvement?

It'll just get a new version number.

If you've been using the latest git builds, then it's like xsacha said: it'll just be a version bump. There's no hidden development going on. Tongue
