Valkyrie Profile: Lenneth

The game boots up just fine but when you start a new game, you watch the opening cutscene and eventually your character talks to Frei. Right after, your character walks through the doors of Valhalla to go speak with Odin. The problem is when it goes to load the next screen, all you see is black. I've fumbled around with the setting but couldn't make a difference. I'm versed in this sort of thing so I beseech the community to come to my aid.
